TheNigerDelta region of Nigeria is surrounded by vast bodies of water, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean into an intricate network of rivers, creeks, mangroves, and estuaries that have sustained life for centuries. It is apparent that oil related conflicts in theNigerDelta are induced by oilpolitics among the ruling elites at the central authority and their agents at the regional level in which oil bearing communities exist. The paper used explorative analysis. In theNigerDelta’s coastal communities, oil pollution ofthe marine environment has depleted the fishing and water resources that people have traditionally depended on for their livelihoods. This has led to a complex pattern of conflicts in the region since the late 1990s. Worse, despite revenues, the Delta’s peoples have yet to benefit from the oil extracted from beneath their feet. As with many of Nigeria’s current problems, this issue sees its roots in the days of British colonialism, in an era when the Delta was still fertile farmland with petroleum beneath. He founded theNigerDelta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), which quickly became one ofthe most powerful militant formations in the region. The group drew significant funding from local and regional political actors who sought leverage and profit from the Delta’s vast oil wealth. shall be limited to the core NigerDelta (Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers State). The study will thus investigate oil and development in the area, the nature ofoil agitations, and assess political opportunities in the pre-militancy and militancy era in the region. of course they can survive without NigerDeltaoil because they've stollen enough of it through their well placed sons , built a working refinery even and spent billions sending pipes from the delta to the north to build standard reserves... Nigeria's oil output has been slashed by 700,000 barrels a day to 1.56 million. But it remains to be seen how well the ceasefire will be implemented given the fractured nature ofthe rebels, which often include unemployed youths driven by poverty.
